What is Polygon (POL) ?

Polygon is a blockchain platform which aims to create a multi-chain blockchain system compatible with Ethereum. As with Ethereum, it uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism for processing transactions on-chain. Polygon's native token is named POL.

How does it work?

Polygons POL Sidechain functions like every other Proof-of-stake-based blockchain. Its structure, token, client nodes, local dapps, validator nodes, etc., are similar to other networks except the factor that exchanges are clustered and settled over the Ethereum mainchain.
Polygon has a layer-2 network for building interoperable, Ethereum-viable blockchain networks.

What are the features of Polygon (POL)?

Availability: On Polygon sidechains, transactions are quick, low-cost, and safe, with finality on the mainchain and Ethereum as the first suitable Layer 1 base chain.

High throughput: On the internal testnet, it was able to reach up to 7,000 TPS on a single sidechain. For horizontal scaling, many chains will be created.

Customer experience: WalletConnect support; native mobile applications and SDK; and developer abstraction from mainchain to Polygon chain.

Security: Operators of polygon chains are also stakers in the PoS system.

Some of the Key Features of Polygon are:

Public sidechains: Unlike individual dApp chains, POL sidechains are open to the public, permissionless, and capable of supporting numerous protocols.

What is polygon zkEVM?

Polygon zkEVM is an open-source ZK-Rollup providing EVM opcode compatibility for a frictionless user experience and the security of Ethereum. It is the first zero-knowledge scaling solution that is fully equivalent to an EVM. All existing smart contracts, developer toolings and wallets work seamlessly.

What are rollups?

Rollups serve as a cutting-edge solution for speeding up transactions in the blockchain field. They are the means used to outsource computation from the network to an off-chain environment. After the computation is done, the transaction data is sent back to Layer 1
